Tell me about the Maps on Garmin GPS Systems.

The maps on your Garmin GPS are the primary source of information for the unit to function properly. Without the maps for the specific area you will be traveling in there is very little that the GPS can do for you.

There are two things you should be concerned with:
Are the maps for your travel area pre-loaded?
Are the pre-loaded maps current?

What countries are covered in your rental units?

How soon can I get a rental unit?

We normally ship by Priority Mail with delivery in 2 to 4 working days. Saturday is considered to be a working day.

We do not offer next day deliveries because we have had issues with the unit not getting to its destination before the customer leaves for their trip and sometimes we then lose our rental products..
Express 2 day is available to most zip codes, for $25.00, This is overnight delivery service but we will not ship the day before you leave.

How are rentals returned?

Single unit orders are shipped with a pre-addressed envelope to use to return the rental to GPSRentals. This envelope does not have the postage prepaid.
You are responsible for the unit from the time it is delivered through the time you return it. If we pre-paid the return postage, you could just drop it in a mailbox, but would have no proof that you did so.

When you take it to the post office to ship it back, simply pay the postage and request tracking
Keep your receipt with a tracking number.
You do not need to pay the extra fees for insurance.

When the post office accepts the package, your responsibility ends. In the event that we do not receive the return, we will contact you for the information on the receipt.

You can ship the rental back by another method if you prefer, but once again, be certain to get a tracking number.

How are orders shipped?

We normally ship orders by Priority Mail, or if necessary, Express Mail.

Larger orders may be shipped by a different carrier.

Saturday is considered a working day for the US Postal Service.
Sundays and Holidays are not.
Priority Mail offers 2 to 4 working day delivery anywhere in the United States.
It is delivered with the normal mail delivery.
The 2 to 4 day delivery is generally reliable, but it can, and has, taken longer.
Express Mail offers next working day delivery nearly anywhere in the United States.
But we will not ship the day before your trip. We consider this 2 day service.

Is the return shipping included?

How do I charge the system?

The unit is normally running on the power provided through through the cigarette lighter outlet in the vehicle. When the unit is turned off and plugged into a live outlet, it will charge the battery. When it is being charged, it will display "Charging Battery" or a similar message. When the battery is fully charged, it may display "Charging Complete".

If the screen is blank, touch the screen to see if a message appears. If the screen is blank, it is probably not connected to a live power source.

The units can also be charged with the proper 110 volt wall charger. These may require an adapter and/or converter outside of the United States.

Connecting to a computer with a USB cable will charge the system but this method is very slow..

Do I pay for the extra days when it arrives before my rental starts?

No.
You are free to begin using the unit as soon as it arrives. We want you to be familiar with it before your travels begin. You pay only for the days designated in your rental order which should include all of the days you require the unit to be in your possession.

All of our rental units for Europe are preloaded with current European maps for 50 countries and they are continually updated. This is one of the primary reasons for renting for occasional usage. These updates are not cheap and become outdated quickly.

The cost of just one update can easily exceed the rental cost so this expense is shared by multiple users through the rental process, rather than each traveler having the expense of purchasing and/or updating a GPS of their own.

What is a retired rental unit that is being sold?

We purchase our rental units, and rent them out, for a very low number of rentals, to recover our purchase cost.
At the end of this period, we offer them for sale at very low prices. Sometimes even lower than what you would pay for a rental.
These units are all very well maintained. They are checked thoroughly each time they are rented, and again when they are returned. And, yet again when they are sold.

They have virtually no known problems, defects, flaws that we are aware of. If we do encounter a unit that does have a problem, it will be revealed in the units description.

What if I will only be using the GPS for part of my trip.

Rental fees are charged for the entire period that you must have the GPS. This is normally from the time you leave the location the GPS is shipped to, through the time you return and can ship the GPS back to us.
Example: Leaving for Europe on June 10th and returning on June 30th but on a cruise from June 13th through June 20th. Even though the GPS will not be used on the cruise, those days must still be paid for. This rental would be for 21 days.
This may seem unfair, but the unit is out of our available inventory and we are unable to rent it to other possible users.

What is included with the rental?

Everything you need to use the GPS in the driving mode is included.

  • The GPS unit itself.
  • Mounting clip and suction cup mount.
  • Charging and power cord to connect to the power outlet in your vehicle.
  • Wall Charger
  • Quick start manual and some additional tips and tricks.
  • Carrying case to keep it all together

If the GPS is being used in the pedestrian mode, a 110 volt charger may be required if there is no vehicle available to recharge the battery. We do not offer the converters as there are a number of different units required in different countries.

Do your rental units speak and display in English?

Yes but you can change it to the language of your choice.

What if I need more than one map for my trip?

All units are preloaded with North America plus the map of your choice. If you need more than one map other than North America please call us at 262-808-6233 and we will see if we can accommodate your specific needs.
